FAQ: A Society of Cybernated Machines Making Decisions Instead of a Government?

Designed by Jacque Fresco www.thevenusproject.com
You say "eventually all decision-making will be transferred to machines"... I don't like the idea of machines making my decisions.

"People say they don't like the idea of machines making their decisions, but they are unaware that this is always happening in their daily lives. This is what a scale does. If you go to a butcher shop and the butcher says "it weighs 6 pounds", since you are buying it, you grab it and say "it seems to weigh about 4" (since you are tense it seems to weigh less). Then the machine we call a scale came in and now we assign decision making to a scale. Correct?

So do pilots, when they are flying in, they used to look at the ground from the plane and say "I think I am about a mile high" but now they look at an instrument, a machine (technology) and it tells them that they are 4 thousand 203 feet off the ground.
That decision was made by a machine. Decision making by machine is far more accurate.

The question normal people ask is: "Yes, but can the machine be smarter than the designer?"
I know this little guy that designed a machine to pick-up a freight train and empty it but the designer couldn't do that.
Machines are always faster, stronger, and accurate than the designer, that is why they are designed.
Have you ever seen a coke bottle move down the line by a conveyor belt? The designer can't move all the bottles, let alone at the speed the machine can.

What is happening in our society is that we are automating more and more decision making and assigning it to machines.

Picture the department of agriculture as a set-up of computers with electrical wiring into the soil. So when the water level drops, it automatically pumps water out. If the nutrients change, it pumps nutrients.

You don't need a guy out there saying "Mr President we have a drought out here." And the President says "How bad is it?"... "Well they are 5,000 homeless and in the next 3 days there might be 50,000 homeless." ...so the President thinks about it "hmmm" so he flies over and he says "yes, we do have a drought here." It is inefficient.

When you connect up the country to computers connecting production, distribution, agriculture; all over the world, you have a nervous system which automatically maintains dynamic equilibrium in all production and all distribution of goods and services all over the world automated and without money.

The government can be set-up to look like this (refer to picture). Computers can make decisions because they are connected to all the information about the earth and programmed to carry out a certain task.

We have the technology to display images from satellites that project a hologram, a virtual image of the earth like the one in the picture. So you are looking at the real earth in real time.

We have the technology to make a system where this hologram is accessible to anyone, and you walk over to the image screens and you talk, you say "how many planes are in the air at this instant?" and the computer connected to all the connectors will know and tell you "7,320". Every plane in the air, every hurricane, all the conditions all over the earth, all plant diseases, etc... no human can do that. We don't need governments, we need access to all the information about the world and anything we want to know based on real information, not opinion or folkway (no politics).

The Venus Project (in a Resource-based Economy) is a set regulated society, government by a cybernated system governed by supply and demand. Political system is replaced by tabulating the input of information from the general population and delivering goods and services accordingly. The economic system is similarly-based upon the use of all available resources and meeting the needs of the entire culture." ~Extract from ~Jacque Fresco: Future By Design (2006) Documentary Movie.

It's NOT about giving machines control, it's about using technology to extend our abilities to make accurate decisions. It's very simple, it happens everyday, people are just not familiar of thinking of it as "machines making decisions".

We're not talking here about passively allowing a 'supercomputer' deciding everything without review. As reviewers, commentators, and innovators arrive at new information; all the data, statics, and inventory would be programmed based on constant growth of physical references. For example, if you edited your computer writing by relying on spelling checks alone, it would not be effective. But you still use the spell-checking tool as an extension of performance. It's a very simple process.

"Once we join together and proclaim all earth’s resources as the common heritage of all people (A Resource-Based Economy), we will begin to know what it means to be civilized. Until that time we will be continuously fighting for a piece of the pie." ~The Venus Project

T.V.P. & T.Z.M. Response to The Occupy Movement

The Venus Project realizes the significance of the Occupy Wall Street and Occupy Together movements and offers a positive solution for their grievances.

We at The Venus Project fear that any acquiescence to the protestor’s demands will do very little if the processes that cause the problems are left in place. In this case whatever laws or regulations are made will be eventually bypassed or overturned and conditions will revert back. This has almost always been the situation historically.

We are concerned that meeting the demands of the protestors while keeping the current economic system in place will not have the desired outcome. It will merely serve to temporarily... Continue >>>
