How to Raise Children Through Proper Education & Stable Environment

"Most people really do not know how to raise children.  I wanted to communicate with my little boy when he was just a few months old and that's a time when you can't communicate with language.

He was in the crib and I had a ball that I painted yellow. He reached out to grab it. When he grabbed it, lights went on in a circle above the crib.  He was so amused by the lights that he let go of the ball and he started crying because the lights stopped.  He didn't know why the lights stopped.

After he grabbed the ball six times, he knew that the ball made the lights come on.  Once that was established, I put a second ball at the end of the crib and he crawled right over before he could speak (you don't need language to communicate) and grabbed that ball right away but no lights went on the ceiling.  He looked up and saw nothing, but on the wall lights went on, up and down like a wave.  So he knew that the yellow one controlled the ceiling lights and this one controlled the wall lights.

By the time he was 3 or 4 months old he had six panels of lights. When he wet his pants, he would know which light to operate in order to get mom to come in and change his diaper.  So in other words, children really want to know how the world works, the kids want to know everything, but we give them "Jack and the Bean Stock" and "the Micky Mouse Club".  Kids are really ready to learn about the body, how the brain works, how the heart beats, how blood goes through the veins; but the parents don't know these things so people ask "should we educate our own children, first" but you can't unless you are educated yourselves (leave the education to someone who is).

A priest once said "I don't believe you, I know two people in the same home, one became a priest and the other a gangster. If the environment is everything, how do you get those differences?"  And I said, the minute you treat one kid different then the other, you get the differences.

Keep giving kids Cinderella and artificiality and you tell them to be honest, you always tell children to be honest and when they say "where do babies come from?" and you say "the stork brings the baby", that's a lie.  And than the child asks "daddy, does Santa Claus really go down every chimney?" And you say "yes".  That's a lie.  So we lie to kids and tell them to be honest.  We lie about almost everything.  That's the kind of world we live in, its full of shit, that's not bad language, it's just that way. So if we really want a better world, you have to know what makes criminals, what makes artists, what the makes great painters.  The environment makes a gangster or a priest.

I went to a group of psychologists and I asked "do you believe that there is such a thing as human nature" they said "yes one of them is jealousy." I asked for an example of what you consider jealousy.  I always ask that to get to know the person.  He said "when I reach for my cat and put it  on my lap, my dog growls.  That's what I mean by jealousy".  So I said I'm going to show you an experiment that I have done.  I have a lot of dogs and cats.  I've always had a lot of dogs and cats and raccoons and other animals and I'm interested in their behavior.

Here's what I did.  I gave that up fresh liver, just a little bit and than I picked up the cat. I did that 20 times and when I reached for the cat the dogs tail would wag.  So if it was inborn he would still growl.  If it was conditioned-in he wouldn't wag his tail when I picked up the cat." ~Jacque Fresco (founder and director of The Venus Project)

On your basis lecture CD's you explained how you got your kids to count using dots, could you explain it again, how did you do it? The sound quality on the recorded tapes wasn't too good in that part.
"In the early days back than I would just put two dots down and ask my son or daughter what they see. And they say " 1, and 2, I see 2 dots". I said "you don't have to count them, just look, you can see there is 2". And if there are 4 dots, you can say without delay "4 dots". Then I would go up to so many dots, but slowly increasing the amount of dots, so the child could look at it in a glance and know how many dots, without ever counting them. That's the way I did it.

In other words, do it gradually. Start with 2 dots, then 3 dots, 6 dots - so the child says "6 dots" right away. "10 dots" right away without counting them. He can learn to do that if you gradually increase the amount of dots. And some children can go up to about 30 dots without counting them. I can sure you can exceed that too." ~Jacque Fresco (founder and director of The Venus Project) Excerpt from Q&A 24th July 2011 - Full

I heard on your earlier DVD's, how children will learn about the environment by going out into the environment on tours and boats and such, but how about abstract things like mathematics, how will these be taught?
It depends on the program and how it is used. If you can name a particular direction that math is taking, I can answer that. And if it takes a certain direction that is related, not theories, specific math related to the design of bridges, buildings, transportation, space travel, all math related to some physical form is the kind of math we deal with. Theoretical physics is something entirely different.

Roxanne: "This is an interesting story, there used to be someone who went to Jacque's early lectures before I was around, before the year 1976. This guy was a Catholic sign painter and Jacque got him interested in science and he went to college looking for other teachers who taught like Jacque did. He couldn't find any, so he emulated the way Jacque taught. He ended up being a physics teacher and he wrote a book based on the methods in the way that Jacque teaches called "Conceptual Physics" and it is in most high school and college physic courses today. It is something like the 13th edition and I believe it was the last edition he has a whole page dedicated to Jacque and how he inspired him and taught him how to teach physics through conceptualizing and relating it to physical things in the real world." ~Jacque Fresco (founder and director of The Venus Project) & Roxanne Meadows (co-founder) - Excerpt from Q&A 24th July 2011 - Full'

In The Venus Project and your book, you talk about how children will be education differently, can you elaborate on the methods that could be used to do this?
Children will be educated to understand how nature and humans are interrelated. Human beings are not separate from nature. They are part of the natural rig. If we violate nature, meaning, if we don't get enough sleep, or enough healthy food, we get sick regardless of what your philosophy is. Children will be taught and brought up in relation to the physical world, how they relate to one another and the world around them. Not make up stories, but find out how trees enhance us by giving us oxygen and absorbing carbon dioxide. The more they know about the physical world, the atmosphere, and the Earth's conditions; the more they are able to evolve survival methods that enhance them and society.

We also talk about setting up challenges for children, instead of having their parents solving all their problems and enable the children to work things out through problem solving skills and critical thinking without dependency of parents. We will have communities where children are encouraged to direct the future and encourage them in the methods of survive, like how to detect if the water is purified or contaminated. Everything we will teach children are things that are relevant. We will have no "Mickey Mouse Clubs". We will only reinforce all aspects of behaviors that are constructive and cooperative. ~Jacque Fresco (founder and director of The Venus Project) Excerpt from Q&A 31st July 2011 Full

T.V.P. & T.Z.M. Response to The Occupy Movement

The Venus Project realizes the significance of the Occupy Wall Street and Occupy Together movements and offers a positive solution for their grievances.

We at The Venus Project fear that any acquiescence to the protestor’s demands will do very little if the processes that cause the problems are left in place. In this case whatever laws or regulations are made will be eventually bypassed or overturned and conditions will revert back. This has almost always been the situation historically.

We are concerned that meeting the demands of the protestors while keeping the current economic system in place will not have the desired outcome. It will merely serve to temporarily... Continue >>>
